Tourism, Hospitality & Ecotourism
Being the attractive place that Scotland is, this makes tourism a great sector to diversify into with hundreds of millions of pounds being spent by tourists each year (VisitScotland).
Farm Stay UK is a great place to register all kinds of accommodation, as is Airbnb.
Farmhouse B&B
B&B’s are an excellent kind of accommodation for those looking to go that bit further for their guests.
Ferghan Mhor and Tarrel Farmhouse are examples of the different directions you could take a B&B in.
Self-catering
Offering self-catered stays is another fantastic option and Quirky Accom showcases many creative self-catering lodgings in Scotland to draw inspiration from.

AirBnB
Using Airbnb is another great and straightforward way of providing accommodation and makes it much easier for people to find you.
Camping/Caravaning | Glamping pods | Wigwams
Donald and Lyn Forbes transformed their once cattle and sheep farm into an award-winning caravan site complete with gourmet shop, bistro, kayak and small motorboat hire, and a host of other outdoor activities!
Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Club accommodates tents, caravans and motorhomes, and also has cosy wigwams for glampers!
Lyn’s advice: “Find something your area is lacking. Take a little time to see what will fit with who you want to be.”

Shepherd Huts
Black Down Shepherd Huts not only make bespoke shepherd huts, they host rentals for holiday lets, too.
Yurts
Woodland Yurts creates and sells yurts, and also hosts listings for yurt holidays. If you have land, yu can create the perfect romantic break for holidaymakers.
Hikers’ / Campers’ Café or Restaurant
If you’re near a hiking route, or a popular walking or camping spot, a café would prove extremely popular and make an excellent diversification project. See Wilderness Association for inspiration.
